MONDAY SEPTEMBER 7th
also played football last season has now chosen to concentrate his efforts on basketball.

THURSDAY AUGUST 27th
Former Gary West Side standout Xavier Jones has indeed left the Gary School and has enrolled at Huber
Heights Wayne HS in Ohio near the Dayton area. Three other former West Side players Reggie Clay,
Alajuwon Edwards and Taylor Lavery have apparently enrolled at Michigan City High School.

THURSDAY AUGUST 20th
Had a chance to talk to Gary Lew Wallace Coach Renaldo Thomas who is itching at the bit to start the
season. The Hornets attack starts with one of best players in the country in Branden (B.J.) Dawson. The
6-6 junior has offers from Purdue, IU, UCLA, Florida and Arizona among others. Dawson in my opinion has
the chance to be the best player out of this region since Glen Robinson. Thomas is also excited to have 6-0
senior guard Latroy Taylor back. The Hornets return some size in 6-5 senior Jaree Crawford, 6-6 senior
Brandon Bradford and 6-5 senior Christian Cross. Guards Jamol Johnson, Jemel Johnson and Devonte Harris
add speed. Thomas is very excited to add 6-4 senior Keon Small, who started at the now closed Wirt last
season, to his lineup. He will make up for the loss of 6-4 junior Dante Brown who transferred back to East
Chicago Central.

SATURDAY AUGUST 15th
Lawrence North has annually been a state power in Indiana High School Basketball. Now coach Jack Keefer
will have to do it without some talented players who have bolted to NE Indianapolis school early. Highly
touted 6-9 forward Dominique Ferguson has moved on to Hargrave Military. Ferguson, who once was set to
play for Kentucky, is now headed to Florida International. 7-0 Center Jan Maehlen has moved to Arizona.
6-8 forward Justin Martin, a one time Louisville commitment, is apparently leaving as well. Don't feel to
sorry for Keefer and the Wildcats as they return plenty led by a pair of Louisville commitments in 6-7
junior Ryan Taylor and 7-0 junior Michael Chandler.

THURSDAY AUGUST 13th
A pair of Warren Central RB's out with knee injuries. Darren Evans, who led Warren Central to three
state titles, tore his ACL and is out for the year. Last season at Virginia Tech he led them in rushing with
over 1,200 yards. Jewel Hampton, who gained 463 yards as a true freshman, is still questionable for a
return after a knee injury. Hopefully these two Warriors get back on the field soon.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 12th (1)
Two of the most interesting basketball hires have happened in Broad Ripple hiring Basil Mawbey as the
Rockets head Coach. Mawbey led both Connersville and Cass to state championships. The Rockets return an
extremely talented cast led by Ronald Patterson and Steven Jamison.
Gary West Side has brought in former NBA player and Roosevelt product Winston Garland as their new
head man. The first job for Garland will be convincing several Cougars who already have their bags packed
from leaving the corner of 9th and Gerry Street. 6-3 Senior PG Xavier Jones has been rumored gone for a
while. Will the reigning REGION player of the year come back or head to prep school??
